Concrete cleaning and sealing
Concrete over time will get dirty from a variety or pollutants. The best way to protect your concrete is cleaning it and sealing it.
Similar to what grows on vinyl siding, concrete can develop algae, mold and mildew growth as well.
While we do use higher pressure to clean concrete as compared to vinyl siding, too much pressure can damage concrete. (You have to be especially careful with concrete less than two years old.)
Additionally, high pressure alone is not the best way to clean concrete. Whatever growth is occurring on the concrete must first be killed before it can be removed. We apply a cleaning solution to your concrete to first kill any organic material like algae, mold or mildew. Then we come through with the proper amount of pressure to remove the surface from any organic material.
Properly power washing the concrete will open up the concrete pores so as to receive and absorb a concrete sealant and protector should the customer desire to have their concrete sealed.
Inorganic material like oil can oftentimes be removed but it requires a different cleaning solution. (We can even remove rust stains for an additional charge.)
What should I do with my new driveway?
Concrete that is less than 2 years old is still considered new when it comes to using any type of pressure on it.
Do not use high pressure on a new concrete. You can and likely will cause irreversible damage.
The best thing for new concrete is to have it sealed. Concrete can be sealed for a fraction of the cost of what it cost to pour the concrete. Sealing your concrete is an investment that will pay dividends as it will keep the concrete in great shape for years and years to come.
What if I don’t want the color or look of my driveway or patio to change when it’s sealed?
The good news is that there are certain sealers that don’t change the color or look of concrete. We can help you make a good decision for what would be best for your concrete.
